Digitization of the Traxx HLE 2901 from Piko

 

I worked on this engine over a few week period at the end of January and never got to writing this post. I initially thought I'd use a Piko sound module, but a short test showed that it is for a diesel engine, not an electric one. Ultimately, I reversed back to using one ESU sound decoder with a ESU sound project.

As usual with Piko, the manual is very clear about how to open the engine: one screw!



Here's how it looks:






Using an incorrect sound module

As you can see in the first picture, the sound module is for diesel engines, so not for this Traxx electric model ...







And now with an ESU sound decoder

I'm now using ESU ref 58420:



This is a blank sound decoder, so I need to load the ESU sound project:
