Putting decals on a truck trailer - part 2

 

I continued with the decals, adding both long sides, the back, and then additional smaller details on the refrigeration unit:

Overall, it is okay but there are defects on the long sides:

• In some areas, the light gray color vanished
• In some other areas, there were "cracks" in the decal

I don't know if those issues are due to my inexperience, the quality of the decals, or the decals solutions ...

Digitization of BB 36001 from Jouef - part 1

The BB 36001 from Jouef (ref HJ2027) is a bit special for me. It was the only Astride with the Carmillon logo and I saw it - although maybe not this number - passing through Ascq!

Opening

It is very easy to open the model: there are no screws, just pull gently on the sides and the chassis will come down fairly easily.

As seen on the pictures above, the white and red lights are made of CMS LEDs with light guides. Unfortunately, one of the guides is damaged, so I have to assess how to put it back nicely. Worst case scenario, since it is the guide for a red LED, I would put a conductor in the opposite cabin, since red lights are not on when pulling fret.

Digitizating

As we can see above, it is possible to install a 8-pin decoder, but those tend to have limited functions. I'm installing a sound decoder and a new PCB board from Miniatures Passion:

Scale model

It was released a while back by LS Models with reference 10072/10072S:

ESU ECoS M4/DCC

I did my usual thing on the ESU LokProgrammer and similarly to my previous BB 16500, the unit showed up at M4 on the ECoS:

Looking at the LokProgrammer, I decided to disable CV47.1 through CV47.3:

I also disabled Selectrix and M4 on the ECoS:

Sadly, the RailCom didn't seem to work and I had to create the engine manually in the ECoS:

But it worked well in the end!

A while back, I purchased a BB 36027 - Jouef 838600 with a deep discount because of its average condition.

BB 36027 - logo casquette

Jouef released the BB 36027 with logo "casquette", so similar to this prototypical engine:

This is what I'm trying to do:

• Change only one number: from 36027 to 36026 - an easy number to access
• Change the SNCF logo to carmillon

I used a wet sandpaper 5000 grit to slowly and carefully remove the 7 numbers and logos:

Adding the decals

I used the decals from AMF87:

I'm quite happy with the two faces. On the sides, the blue "6" is not exactly at the same size and it shows. I should really get custom decals with the full "36026" number, but for a first time, I'm quite pleased.

What's next:

• Get custom decals with the full number
• Remove all numbers
• Remove the logos on the sides
• Repaint the sides since it is a bit damaged
• Place the new decals
• Convert the engine to DCC - depending if the engine shows well after the new decals.
